This week we managed to find a young person who has left a residential care home, and we’ll be trying to employ him on the project we’ve been awarded. It still seems complicated and slow going, but this young man really wants to work and even has a dream of what he’d like to do – he wants to be a barber. We’ll try to find him exactly that sort of job. His hope is to be able to afford his own flat, because living with relatives isn’t going well, and the hostels for vulnerable young people have a 10 pm curfew. This means that if you come home after 10 pm, the doors will be locked and you won’t be able to get in. On the one hand, rules are necessary to avoid problems in the hostels, but on the other hand, I also understand how these young people have been waiting to turn 18 and gain their freedom, only to suddenly feel as though they’re being treated like children again.
There’s no such thing as perfect happiness, though, and everything happens step by step.
